Pristine Streams

The creeks and streams of the Quantico watershed (30 square miles) are wholly within the properties of the Prince William Forest Park and the Quantico Marine Base.  No urban or agricultural development has occurred for almost 90 years.

The green space seen in the aerial photograph indicates that the area has a significant amount of vegetative cover.

Impacted Streams

Streams from the Cameron Run watershed (42 square miles) are located within the highly urbanized areas of Arlington and Fairfax counties and Alexandria, VA.

The grey areas and lack of green indicates that the streams in this area are surrounded by a significant amount of impervious surfaces which lead to high amounts of surface run-off.
