Six-hour hands-on program enhances the Force, Motion and Energy and Matter strands of the Virginia SOLs.

Life Science is Elementary

Thursday, April 10 2008, 9:00 am–3:00 pm

For teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade, this six-hour workshop provides hands-on adventures for the Life Processes and the Living Systems strands of the Virginia SOLs.

Thursday, February 28 2008, 9:00 am–3:00 pm

For teachers of kindergarten through fifth grade, this six-hour workshop offers a hands-on approach to the Scientific Investigation, Reasoning, and Logic strand of the Virginia SOLs.

Earth in Space

Thursday, March 13 2008, 9:00 am–3:00 pm

For teachers of grades four and six, this six-hour workshop covers the space and astronomy-related components of the Earth Cycles, Patterns and Change and the Interrelations in the Earth-Space Systems strands of the Virginia SOLs.

Fee

Each museum-based workshop is $77 per teacher. Includes lunch and a CD packed with activities.

Especially For Middle School Teachers

Microscopes: From Water-Drop to Digital Imaging

Thursday, September 27 2007, 9:00 am–3:00 pm

Investigate the natural sciences while learning about the evolution of microscopes from early water-drop magnifiers to the digital imaging microscopes of today. Build your own water-drop microscopes and use a computer microscope to create a multimedia presentation.

The activities in this workshop support the Virginia Science Standards: 5.1, 5.4, 5.5, 6.7, 6.9, LS.2, LS.3, PS.9, BIO.2, BIO.4, BIO.6 and BIO.9. The workshop also incorporates activities that support the Computer Technology curriculum.

Solar Speeders

Thursday, November 8 2007, 9:00 am–3:00 pm

Explore the science of solar energy as you design and build your own solar car! Investigate gears, transmissions, chassis, mass, wheels and friction through the exploration of solar energy.

The activities in this workshop support the Virginia Science Standards: 5.1, 5.3, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.9, PS. 1, PS. 6, PS. 9 and PS. 10. The workshop also incorporates activities that support the Computer Technology curriculum.

Purchase orders are accepted for workshops. Class sizes are limited. Register early!

Fee

$66 per teacher (minimum of 10 teachers) plus facilitator travel and lodging where applicable.
