Curator
The Science Museum of Virginia seeks a  curator to oversee the management and care of its collection at the Virginia Aviation Museum.  This contract position is responsible for the inventory, documentation, storage, preservation and display of historic artifacts and will work to determine artifact conservation needs.  The curator is responsible for working with staff members in the use of artifacts for education and research and will work with the Collections Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees in regard to collections management policy: accessioning, de-accessioning and loans.  The successful candidate will have superb oral and written communication skills, demonstrated use of a collections management software system and a close familiarity with best museum practices.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, History or a related field is required.  A valid Virginia driver's license is required.  Candidate must be able to physically lift and move artifacts.  Computer skills in PastPerfect software (or a similar collections management database), web/internet utilization and word processing are required. Position will work approximately 20-25 hrs. per week and pays $15 -19 per hour, commensurate with experience.
