Journey Into Amazing Caves

Masters of the Night: The True Story of Bats
Sept. 26, 2009–Jan. 3, 2010

Enter through a neo-Gothic portal and learn about the upside-down world of bats. Multi-sensory interactive displays and lifelike models bring the mysteries of bats out of the dark! Lose your misconceptions about these night creatures and discover their ecological importance as well as the true wonders of the bat world. Listen through giant, bat-like ears and maneuver a bat model with a joystick to hunt food. Use laser-simulated sonar to understand bat "echolocation." At the bat nursery, learn the nurturing traits of mother bats.

Cave Corner
Sept. 26, 2009–Jan. 3, 2010

Enhance your underground experience! Meet interesting insects, spiders and fish that call caves home. Study cave specimens on loan from Luray Caverns and the Lora Robins Gallery of Design From Nature. Check out stunning cave photographs.

Shark Space
Held over! Now through Jan. 3, 2010
Shark feeding at 10–10:30 a.m.
Shark petting at noon–12:30 and 3–3:30 p.m.

Get your hands wet as you meet living sharks and other marine creatures. What should you be more afraid of: a shark or a pig? Did you know that sharks have a "sixth" sense? Be amazed by sand sculptures of sharks and a marine food web. For safety reasons, children must be 40 inches or taller to experience the touch tanks.
