Volunteer Opportunities in Guest Services
Exhibit Interpreters
Help guests explore and understand interactive exhibits relating to aerospace, physics, chemistry, biology, computers and more. Minimum age is 15. Two 4-hour shifts a month are required.
Information Desk
Welcome guests and provide information about the museum and the Richmond area, accept packages and assist with incoming phone calls. Minimum age is 14. Two 4-hour shifts a month are required.
Shop 4 Science Assistants
Assist guests making purchases; receive, ticket and stock merchandise; and organize the sales floor. Must be able to use a cash register. Minimum age is 16. Two 4-hour shifts a month are required.
IMAX®DOME Usher
Provide pre-program orientation and assist guests entering and exiting the theater. Minimum age is 14. Two 4-hour shifts a month are required.
IMAX®DOME Console Operator
Volunteers with extensive computer experience can operate giant screen films and DIGISTAR® planetarium shows in our IMAX®DOME. Minimum age is 18. Requires a weekly 4-hour commitment, Monday-Friday.
Special Events
Volunteers are on-call for IMAX®DOME film and exhibition openings and our weekend programs. Volunteers greet museum guests, distribute programs, work crowd control and conduct educational activities. Minimum age is 14. Flexible schedule.
Technology Studio
Provide access to the Science Museum's educational and technological resources. Volunteers must be comfortable working with various forms of technology. Minimum age is 14. Two 4-hour shifts a month are required.
Camp In Aide
Welcome and familiarize overnight Camp In participants to the museum, assist teachers and group leaders in presenting hands-on science activities and help in the preparation and cleanup of the event. Minimum age is 14. Weekends during the academic year. Learn more about Camp In
