The Science Museum of Virginia’s internship program provides an environment for college and high-school students to partake in the daily operations of the Museum and expand their educational experience outside of the classroom. Internships are pre-arranged, structured learning experiences generally targeted towards a specific project. Interns also participate in daily Museum activities. A designated supervisor assigns intern projects.
Part-time and full-time internship opportunities are available during the spring, summer and fall semesters. All internships are unpaid. Positions are open to high school, college, graduate students and career changers. All interns must be at least 16 years of age.

Please find below a brief description of possible internship placements. Internship time commitments are generally 20-30 hours per week for a period of 8-12 weeks. If you will be receiving school credit for your internship, your specific program will determine required hours and schedule. All internship positions are unpaid. If you are selected for an interview, a detailed description will be provided.
Assist with hands-on science demonstrations and activities for the public. Opportunities are also available to research, develop and implement new educational demonstrations and activities.
Staff Scientist Research
Assist with current research projects in gathering science content for exhibition development.
Assist Marketing and Public Relations staff with Museum promotions, social media, public relations and communications.
Assist with administrative tasks in Group Sales, Collections, Finance and Human Resource departments.
