Outreach

The Science Museum of Virginia brings science to schools, libraries, daycare centers, PTA meetings, community events, festivals and more throughout Virginia. This traveling general science program presents informal educational experiences that are fun for all ages. Science-by-Van and BioExpress include an all-school assembly, interactive exhibits and hands-on classroom workshops. Our hands-on workshops and exhibits are correlated with the Virginia Standards of Learning.

How it works: On the day of the program educators will arrive at your school 45 minutes to an hour before the program is scheduled to begin. Table-top exhibits will be set up in a room of the school's choosing (usually the gym or cafeteria) and every class will have the opportunity to explore the exhibits in 25 minute increments throughout the day.

A Museum educator will also provide one all-school assembly either at the beginning or end of the school day, as your school's schedule allows. Every class and grade level is welcome to attend the assembly. Finally, throughout the day the educators will teach 10, 50-minute workshops of your school's choosing.

While each van program consists of these three components, programs can be tailored to your school's specific needs! Click here for details.
