Dominion Energy Christmas Parade
Saturday, December 7 at 10 am
The 36th annual Dominion Energy Christmas Parade, a beloved Richmond tradition, attracts more than 100,000 spectators each year from everywhere in Virginia, with thousands more enjoying the live television broadcast. For many Richmonders, the parade kicks off the Christmas season and features a very special Grand Marshal, holiday floats, marching bands, huge helium balloons, and, of course, Santa himself! This year’s parade will continue the grand celebration of fun and excitement for all!
The Dominion Energy Christmas Parade departs from the Museum and proceeds down Broad Street to 7th Street. Please be aware of street closures and parking issues prior to, during and after the Parade.

Special Showing: The Polar Express

Believe in the magic this holiday season! Gather your family, don your favorite PJ’s, grab a cup of hot chocolate and celebrate the holidays at the Museum with a 10 am or 4 pm showing of the holiday classic, The Polar Express, in the Dome. All aboard!
Members-only pre-sale tickets go on sale Tuesday, December 3. General admission tickets go on sale Tuesday, December 10. Hot chocolate will be available for purchase by the general public. Members attending the show can enjoy complimentary hot chocolate.
Tickets will be available online or by calling 804.864.1400. Dome passes not valid. Member tickets are $5; general public tickets are $9. Children 2 and under are free but must sit on an adult’s lap. Tickets are not refundable and only valid for the specific date and movie time selected.
Thursday, December 26 – Monday, December 30 from 9:30 am to 5 pm
During this quirky, annual holiday event, the Museum will conduct unconventional experiments on everyone’s least favorite holiday treat, the fruitcake! Watch in amazement as Museum educators burn, drop and freeze fruitcakes – in the name of science, of course. Celebrate the season with a memorable week chockful of science!
Fruitcake Science is included with Museum admission.
Noon Year’s Eve
Tuesday, December 31 from 10 am to 1 pm
Ring in the Noon Year with the Museum! Count down to noon to see a dramatic and quirky version of the traditional ball drop! Kick off the New Year with science on your side – watch 2,019 bouncy balls, paper streamers and confetti bring the Rotunda to life for a special ball drop to celebrate the New Year.
Noon Year’s Eve is included in Museum admission and is open to the first 2,500 guests. The Museum will open at 9 am that day to begin selling tickets. Tickets must be purchased in person at Guest Services on December 31; advance ticket purchases and online ticket purchases are not valid for this event.
The Museum will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
